People with minus eyes need tools to help clarify vision that can be used every day. Soft lens or contact lenses are an option for those who don't like to wear glasses. Unfortunately, the risk of dry eye often comes after using it for several hours. To overcome this problem, many people often wet their eyes with liquid soft lens . However, is this method really safe and can be done?
What is that eye contact solutions ?
Eye contact solutions are liquids specially formulated to clean soft lenses.
Most of the soft lens products contain several chemical compounds such as bisphosphonates which break down the residual protein of eye wax on the lens, cellulose and propylene glycol which moisturizes them, and buffers that keep the pH level safe for the eyes.
There are two types of soft lenses that are often used, namely multipurpose solution and hydrogen peroxide-based system .
Multipurpose solution is a cleaning fluid that will perform with thorough care including cleaning, rinsing, disinfecting, and soaking the lens. Generally, this liquid contact lens is used for eyepiece users soft contact lens .
To use it, simply put a few drops of multipurpose solution on the contact lens and wipe gently for a few seconds. After that, save the contact lens in the liquid contact lens that has been replaced.
Meanwhile, the hydrogen peroxide-based system has a function that is more or less the same as a multipurpose solution. The difference is, HPB contact lenses cannot be used directly and may be less practical when compared to other types of fluids.
The reason is, you will need a special tool to store the contact lens which also works as a neutralizer of substances in the HPB fluid that can harm the eye. Alternatively, you must clean the contact lens using a surfactant cleaning fluid before using the HPB.
Can I use soft lens for eye drops?
Usually, the purchase of contact lenses will be accompanied by a special liquid for eye drops. This fluid contains components that can rejuvenate tired eyes and reduce side effects caused by wearing contact lenses such as dryness, blurred vision, or itching.
However, since most of the products are packaged in small containers, you may often forget to bring them with you. To outsmart your eyes that are starting to feel dry, you also need to drip soft lenses as a replacement. In fact, this action is actually not good for your eye health.
Although both have a cleansing effect, contact lenses and eye drops are produced for different purposes. So, the content of the two is also not the same. The liquid drops have a hypromellose component that makes them similar to tears, making them very safe for your eyes.
Meanwhile, the contact lens cleaner contains an anti-infective component which, if applied directly to the eye, will cause irritation.
Even though it has been neutralized, HPB liquid that is used directly on the eye can still cause several side effects, including redness and a burning sensation. Even in some cases, exposure to HPB can also injure the cornea of the eye.
In addition, the content of bisphosphonates and cellulose can also be risky, especially if you have sensitive eyes. This content has side effects in the form of inflammation, blurred vision, increased eye sensitivity, and watery eyes that can lead to sticky eyelids.
Finally, it is better not to use a contact lens for longer than the recommended length of time on the packaging. Wash your contact lenses regularly to ensure that the lenses in the eyes do not cause infection. If there is a problem with your eye that doesn't go away within a few days, call your doctor right away.
