Multiple personality is a psychological disorder in which a person has two (or more) personalities that exist within them. Multiple personality or dissociative identity disorder is a psychological disorder in which the individual's personality is divided, resulting in another personality. Personality signs are usually an expression of another personality (alter ego), which appears because the main person cannot make what he wants to do.
What is an alter ego?
In Latin, alter ego means "our other selves". Alter ego can also be said that there is one person who has more than one personality, or has two or more persons at once. Sometimes sufferers do not know that they have multiple personality signs. The other personalities that exist in one body sometimes also do not know each other, and even worse, sometimes each of these individuals is of opposite character.
The alter ego becomes easier to control the body when you are in a state of decline. That is why people who have multiple personalities easily feel tired when the day changes, because the same person does not pass each day.
Multiple personality traits that you can feel
- There are actions that you are sometimes not aware of, as well as behaviors that are not the same and tend to be opposite. For this sign, usually people closest to you or your family can notice or complain about your changed attitude.
- You are physically sick when you switch personalities, it is not clear why. However, it is likely that there will be intense fatigue or headaches as your personality changes.
- You won't remember the time clearly. This means that you don't notice time is running because you don't remember what you were doing. This can happen when you are "asleep" and your other characters will control your body.
- You will forget who and how you are. This sign clearly proves that you don't know what has happened to you. For example, once you come to your senses, sometimes you will find bruises, bleeding, or abrasions on several parts of the body without knowing the cause. Sometimes you will also forget the position in which you were the first time.
- Amnesia, you will not be aware of what is happening around you.
- Feeling depressed, unhappy with who you are.
- Suddenly angry for no apparent reason, it is possible that the alter ego is angry with the main personality for being unable to solve the problem or maybe vice versa. The initial person will rebel with his alter ego that tries to act negatively or control him.
- You often experience inner turmoil. Sometimes this makes it difficult for you to make decisions or tends to be fickle.
- Being paranoid about things you don't even know are causing them.
How is it different from schizophrenia?
Schizophrenia is a mental illness that includes chronic psychosis. Schizophrenics often hear or see things that are not real (hallucinations) and believe something that is unfounded (delusions).
Contrary to popular opinion, schizophrenics do not have multiple personalities. Delusions are a common psychotic symptom, and hallucinations that occur especially hearing voices are experienced by schizophrenics. But there is one thing in common between these two diseases, namely the risk of suicide is higher than other mental illnesses.
